Dior Day One

Jonathan Anderson makes history with his appointment as the sole creative director of Christian Dior. The first designer to exclusively helm the luxury brand since the eponym himself, Anderson will create 10 annual collections a year across womenswear, menswear, and haute couture. This follows the Northern Irish designer’s recent departure from Loewe, where he transformed the small Spanish brand into a multi-billion dollar powerhouse over his 11 year tenure.

The French conglomerate LVMH’s announcement comes after former womenswear creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her final Resort 2026 collection in Rome last week, marking the end of her nine-year position as the only woman to lead Dior since its founding. At the beginning of the year, Kim Jones stepped down as the menswear artistic director after seven years. With both exits leaving not one but two roles to fill, the fashion world cast their votes on Dior’s next chapter.

Enter Anderson. The designer will present his first menswear collection for the brand in Paris later this month, followed by womenswear in October during Paris Fashion Week. In the meantime, he has paused the runway presentations for his eponymous brand, JW Anderson—where he plays with exaggerated silhouettes and pigeon-shaped bags—in order to focus on Dior. As the dust settles from months of the creative director shuffle, all eyes are on Anderson.
