A courtyard entryway with arched plaster walls and modern, concrete floors creates the feeling of entering the home of a close friend in the middle of Manhattan. The 2,500 square-foot-space on Madison Avenue, however, is not residential but rather it is Vince’s new New York City flagship, which opened last month, and indeed it is special. Inside, the brand’s seasonal collections are on display along with a dedicated women’s shoe salon and an exclusive lounge designed for private fittings and special events. The rare architectural setting nods to its surrounding East Coast environment while staying true to Vince’s West Coast ease and confidence.

A 1972 Italian Le Bambole' loveseat by Mario Bellini newly upholstered in ochre, woolen velvet greets guests at the store’s entrance. Throughout, meaningful tomes and special Vince pieces compliment the space’s permanent décor and furniture. Built-in shelves feature wood sculptures by artist Chandler McLellan, and stacks of books act as small plinths for Vince’s leather loafers, boots, and ballet flats. A 1940s carved wood cabinet by French designer Charles Dudouyt opens to reveal stacks of cable knits and cashmere sweaters accompanied by books featuring artists like Pablo Picasso and photographer Dorothea Lange.

Both functional and sculptural, the new flagship provides a lived-in, architectural backdrop in which the brand’s collection nestles into every room. The interior of aged brass detailing, walnut paneling and coffee-colored velvet wallpaper by Phillip Jefferies are accented with Brazilian rosewood furnishings curated by Vince’s in-house creative team in collaboration with numerous New York-based artists and creative studios, including the Somerset House, Lemieux et Cie, and Found Collectibles.

The new opening is more than a retail storefront; it gives a holistic, California way of living the New York treatment. In this spirit, the timeless space is designed to entertain, hosting exclusive events and product launches. And the experience is all-encompassing: A woodland Perfumer H candle burns alongside a leather mule, exuding scents of eucalyptus and juniper. Every sense is catered to, establishing a tangible sense of harmony with Vince’s modern, quality designs at the forefront.

Vince is now open at 1005 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10075.
