Sugar Rush

For stylist Marcus Allen, these Mexican wedding cookies are a sweet relic of days spent baking with his grandmother.

When a special occasion arises, Marcus Allen makes Mexican wedding cookies. “I used to mostly eat the cookie dough, but the finished product is also great,” says the New York-based stylist and founder of the Society Archive, a platform that curates vintage designer items. Like good style, the holiday cookie is timeless. “It reminds me of when I was growing up making them with my grandmother,” Allen shares with Family Style. “She’s 95 and still makes them every year!”

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1 ⅔ cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract

  1. Mix butter, 1 cup sugar, flour, pecans, and almond extract to make dough.
  2. Roll the dough into balls.
