Upon arrival at Hotel Chelsea, the elevator doors open into the penthouse floor, and skylight windows flood the view with an early springtime glow. My eyes scan a couple of café bistro chairs, and I can’t help but wonder if I have just stepped into a cafe in Vienna. After all, the hotel is a historical landmark. Every detail is a thoughtful nod to the past, complete with all the charms of today. ‍

As I make my way to the hotel’s newly opened spa facility, I pass its historic rooftop Steeple-turned-fitness center. A peek inside reveals reclaimed-farm wood floors, towering 40-foot ceilings, skylights, and state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, all framed by vast city views.

At the Hotel Chelsea spa, pristine tiles and black lacquered doors hint at a world of discovery beyond the entrance. First, I stop at the shop; I would make a trip here solely on its own merit to peruse earthy hemp-infused bar soaps, luxurious fragrances from Vyrao, and CBD gummies from Rose Los Angeles. ‍

Next, in the sun-drenched terrace garden and fireplace lounge, I browse an extensive list of  treatments and experiences. I immediately gravitate towards the traditional Swedish sauna—then the aromatic steam showers, rain showers, soaking tubs, lymphatic massages, CranioSacral therapy, and replenishing day glow facial. ‍

After a quick refresh, I head downstairs for a cocktail at the lounge followed by a late meal at the Café Chelsea, where I have ravioles du dauphiné, asparagus with coulis sauce, and sea bass accompanied by broccoli greens. Ready for a deep night’s rest, I sigh with relief that my room is only an elevator ride away.
